Coming up this week

This week the children will be practicing their non-fiction writing skills by writing invitations. We will continue to learn phase 4 phonics and learn more high frequency words. Click here for some phase four flash cards to help your child at home.

Curious learners....

Image
Over the last few weeks the children have been eager to apply their literacy skills whilst retelling the story Whatever Next. They used story props, actions and story maps to support them. All of this has had a positive impact on their writing. The children have also been busy investigating ways in which to represent the number 17.

Cloud in a jar- science experiment

The children used shaving foam, water and food colouring to investigate how clouds work. They used pipetts to carefully drip food colouring on tot the shaving foam (cloud). When it became too heavy the drops travelled down the jar like rain.

This week in Robin class we will continue with phase 4 phonics. We will learn more common exception words with particular focus on do , when , my and her . Click here   to play a yes/no phonics game during which children practise their reading and comprehension skills.  We will begin a unit of work based around the story Whatever Next by Jill Murphy. We will ask the children to retell the story using features of narrative and imagine they are going on a trip to the moon -what would they pack? In maths the number 16 is the new number of the week. We will be encouraging children to find number bonds, doubles, half’s and groups within 16. We will also be challenging the children to reason and explain as they investigate. We will also be asking the children to estimate amounts e.g estimate how many Pom poms are in the jar? We will also be discussing recycling during key worker time and how we can help to look after our planet.  Click here  To watch some...

Our amazing writing!

After our phonics lessons, the children have been producing fantastic independent writing using new tricky words, finger spaces, capital letters and even full stops! The children are always eager to share their writing with friends and adults.  Have a look below!

Fun at the Farm

The children had an action packed day at Hesketh Farm yesterday. We learnt so much about looking after farm animals. The children were so excited to take part in each activity including a tractor ride, egg collecting, holding chicks, paddock walk, and feeding lambs. The children were very inquisitive and asked the staff excellent questions to find out more about each animal. A special thank you to the parent volunteers who were fantastic.
