Our learning next week...

We have a very exciting week of learning ahead.... The police are coming to visit on Tuesday in their Police Car as part of our learning in literacy ‘people who help us’.  In phonics, we will be moving onto reading and spelling the digraphs “ow” e.g. cow and “oi” e.g. coin. A digraph is two letters that make one sound and the children are becoming aware of this. Ask them if they can tell you what a digraph is. To recap, segmenting is the way you “chop” up the sounds in words for spelling e.g. ch - i - p. Blending is when you put these sounds back together again for reading e.g. ch - i - p will become chip when the sounds are blended together.  In maths, we will be exploring our number of the week ‘11’. Investigate with your child different ways to make or represent 11 e.g. writing a mathematical statement, finding 11 objects, odd or even number? The possibilities are endless.  Busy Week!

This week the children have been busy planting seeds in out outdoor space. So far we have planted wild flowers, ladybird poppies and carrots! The children enjoyed digging the soil and found exciting insects. The children applied their phonic knowledge to write about signs for our planters.

This week we continue to focus on segmenting and blending our sounds to write new sentences and captions. We have been learning digraphs e.g. ch, oa, oo and recognising them in words. Search them on YouTube there are lots of exciting videos.  In maths, we have been learning 2D and 3D shapes, their properties and comparing different lengths and heights. For number, the children are developing their awareness of odd and even numbers and doubling and halving amounts.
