Walk to the Local Shop and Easter Baking

Image
The children in Reception have been very busy this week!  The children had the experience of walking to our local shop to buy ingredients to make Easter shortbread biscuits.  The children read a recipe and wrote a list of ingredients that we needed to buy.  The children loved walking to the shop and paying for the items.  Once we got back to school, it was time to bake! The children listened to instructions, weighed ingredients and mixed them together. The children then chose which Easter biscuit cutter they wanted to use.  We can't wait to decorate them! 🐰🐣🥚

Understanding the World - Seasonal Change

Image
This half term, Reception have been learning all about the world around us.  The children have been learning all about seasonal change and this week we have been on a season hunt around the school grounds.  The children spotted different signs of Spring whilst on our walk.  S.Z "I can see some daffodils, they grow in the Spring time. It's hotter now." J.D "There's buds on the tress because the flowers are going to start growing soon."

Maths - Number 10

In Maths, Reception have been learning all about the number 10.  The children explored the different ways we can make ten using numicon.  They then worked in partners to make a 'Number 10' poster.  Have a look at our amazing learning!

First look at Spring!

Image
This week, we have been exploring seasonal changes and spotting signs of spring in our environment . We enjoyed a walk around the school grounds, spotting growing flowers, buds and plenty of bees.  We finished this off with time on the field and practising our rolling skills!  In Maths, we have focused on number bonds to 10 and are becoming more and more confident with these. Can your child sing along with our song of the week?  Next week, we have our walk to the co-op using our maps that we have made. We will focus on writing a recount of our journey and instructions for baking biscuits. With Easter on its way, we will explore and celebrate Easter and create our own cards.

World book day!

We had a fantastic, reading filled day for world book day.  The children took part in a a parade with KS1 to showcase their costumes.  We shared lots of stories, talked about our costumes and characters, created book marks and lots more!  The children also loved sharing their 'Egg Book in a Box' competition enteries.  At Iveson, we celebrate reading everyday and it is clear the children do so too and thoroughly enjoyed this special celebration.

Understanding the world- Paramedic visit

Image
Wow!  Last week we had an exciting visit from two paramedics. They talked to use about their jobs and how they help people in different situations. The children asked their own questions and were very curious about their roles in our community. We even had the opportunity to look inside the ambulance and hear the sirens!
