Expressive Arts and Design - Skills

In Reception children have daily opportunities to explore and build on their design and technology skills.

Within Reception children should:

•         Know how to use scissors to cut curved lines and simple shapes with increased independence. E.g. a square/circle.
•         Know how to build structures, joining components together with increased independence.
•         Know how to make simple models from materials and draw of ideas and intentions.
•         Know how to express what they like and do not like about items they have made and attempt to say why.
•         Know what they are making and which materials they are using.
•        Know the names of the tools needed to work the materials E.g., scissors to cut, glue to stick.
