As I’m sure some of the children have told you about our caterpillars. We have been caring for them and watching them closely as they go through their life cycle. Unfortunately, half term couldn’t come at more worse time as the caterpillars were ready to turn into butterflies. As promised, I took the coocoons home and the butterflies emerged a few days later! This week continue to focus on the story The Gingerbread Man. The children can now retell the story using actions, ask them to retell it at home! We will be using our measuring skills on Thursday as we bake our own Gingerbread Men. We will focus on the Number 14 in Maths. The children will investigate the number and solve problems including doubling, halving and sharing. In phonics we will continue to read words and nonsense (alien words). Click here for some phonics games to play at home. We will also learn the tricky (common-exception) words:  have, like some, come. Reminder: Thursday 23rd May is Polling Day - Reception children to arrive and be picked up from breakfast club doors.

This week we are excited to be reading The Gingerbread Man. We will be exploring new vocabulary and adding these to our Wow Word Wall. We will also be discussing character descriptions and challenging the children to write speech from the story.  In maths we will be continueing to focus on the Number 13. We will be challenging children to solve addition and subtraction problems by counting on and counting back (rather than counting all items). Click here to play some addition games. In phonics we will begin phase 4 and will learn the common exception word said. The week the children have been observing our class caterpillars, they have grown so much already. We can’t wait to see them transform.

The children had a great time Den Building yesterday. We were amazed by their problem solving, team work and resilience. Look at the innovative dens they created. In the afternoon the children were eager to write about their experience.
