Police visit to Robin Class

Image
We had a fantastic last week in the spring term. Robin class were visited by two Police officers who told us about their job. The children were able to try on the uniforms, ask questions and even sat in the Police van! The siren was so loud. The children produced some fantastic writing following their visit. We can’t wait to post letters and picture to the officers.

Interesting Insects!

We can wait to see the insects that the children have created over the Easter break. Here are a few more ideas:

Easter Homework

Here is a reminder about the homework over the Easter Break:  Similar to previous projects (instruments and chatterboxes) we would love for the children to create an insect using junk materials. We had a discussion about what we could make and the children had all sorts of wonderful ideas! After, invite your child to write about what they had made this could be a  word e.g. ant or a simple sentence dependent on your child’s confidence in their writing e.g. I made an ant. I used egg boxes. We can’t wait to see what you create!  Also, the children have either received a problem solving booklet or an Easter maths booklet to complete. By no means is this compulsory as it is just a fun way for them to apply their knowledge. Some children also received a letter formation booklet to practice their handwriting. There is no need to practice every letter, just choose a few that you believe your child struggles with e.g. b, d, e, f. Again this is not homework, just a way for your...

Our learning next week...

We have a very exciting week of learning ahead.... The police are coming to visit on Tuesday in their Police Car as part of our learning in literacy ‘people who help us’.  In phonics, we will be moving onto reading and spelling the digraphs “ow” e.g. cow and “oi” e.g. coin. A digraph is two letters that make one sound and the children are becoming aware of this. Ask them if they can tell you what a digraph is. To recap, segmenting is the way you “chop” up the sounds in words for spelling e.g. ch - i - p. Blending is when you put these sounds back together again for reading e.g. ch - i - p will become chip when the sounds are blended together.  In maths, we will be exploring our number of the week ‘11’. Investigate with your child different ways to make or represent 11 e.g. writing a mathematical statement, finding 11 objects, odd or even number? The possibilities are endless.  Busy Week!

This week the children have been busy planting seeds in out outdoor space. So far we have planted wild flowers, ladybird poppies and carrots! The children enjoyed digging the soil and found exciting insects. The children applied their phonic knowledge to write about signs for our planters.
